SUMMARY:Demo Night: Introduction to 3D Printing
DESCRIPTION:Want to use our 3D printer? Have questions? Then this demo night is for you.\n\n\nThis demo night will provide an introduction to how 3D printing works and give participants the basic skills needed to borrow the 3D printer from the library. \nWe will cover the following topics: \n● An overview of different additive manufacturing technologies\, filament types\, FDM printer types \n● Different ways of creating a 3D model (creating it from scratch\, as well as sources for free models available online) \n● Preparing a file for printing \n● Basics of printer troubleshooting & maintenance \n \nSome references will also be passed along to assist in further research into: \n● 3D modelling software options \n● Top 3D printers in different price ranges \n● Sources for raw material (filament) \nThe topics above will be followed by a Q&A session to go through anything that hasn’t been covered. \nNote: \nTickets are transferable to another person and only refundable if we have people on the waiting list who can take your spot. SUMMARY:WorkSpace Safety: Intro to Milling
DESCRIPTION:This course is for anyone who wants to use the following tools in our WorkSpace: planer\, jointer\, and table saw.\n\n\nThis WorkSpace Safety course will teach you the safe handling of the big power tools and you will learn how to set them up for your own usage and work project. The instructor will give detailed explanations of how to safely use the jointer\, planer\, and table saw. Participants will use their newfound knowledge to cut pieces on the table saw and take home a small hardwood cutting board.  \nIf you’re under 18 years\, you must be accompanied by an adult. Contact us beforehand via email (info@ottawatoollibrary.com) for approval. \nEvery workshop attendee gets a free day pass to our WorkSpace (value $20). Pass needs to be used within one month of this workshop. \nPlease dress appropriately for working in a woodshop: closed-toe shoes\, hair tied in the back\, and no loose clothing. It’s important to be on time for this workshop as this is a safety course and all information is important. While pretty to look at\, you’re not going to want to put that spatula down once you start cooking\, it’s just so fun to use. \nThe pasta ladle comes with a handy measuring slot to get the perfect spaghetti serving for two. \nThis class is perfect for individuals and couples. So make that promise of doing something together a reality and come on out. \nThis workshop will use cherry and maple\, beautiful hardwoods\, for the kitchen utensils. \nPlease dress appropriately for working in a woodshop: closed-toe shoes\, hair tied in the back\, and no loose clothing. \nOur instructor: \nEvan is a woodworker\, educator\, and repair-minded maker who specializes in teaching practical skills with a clear\, accessible approach. You will learn about cutting\, gluing\, sanding\, and applying finish to wood items by using a bandsaw\, drills\, and sanders\, while giving you a solid introduction to tool safety. \nCome build this simple yet beautiful keepsake box with us and develop more skills.  \nPsst\, this will make a beautiful Holiday gift.  \nNote: \nWorkshops are transferable to another person and only refundable if someone else takes your spot. Please make sure this date works with your schedule. \nInstructor: \nStéphanie (she/her/elle) started to be really serious about woodworking during the pandemic\, building small things in her garage. Being limited on space and not having access to the big power tools\, she has developed skills doing charcuterie and cutting boards\, bandsaw boxes\, frames\, some epoxy work and even kumiko woodworking. She is now merging this new passion for woodworking with her career skills of training delivery and facilitation of events. Stéphanie’s objective is to make woodworking accessible to everyone\, no matter what your skill level or knowledge is. She promises a fun and judgment free class that will allow you to ask any question and go at your own pace.
